Road Freight Manager

Position Details

Purpose
As the Freight Manager at Elite Co., your responsibilities in road freight operations encompass overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of trucking activities, ensuring prompt delivery and efficient resource allocation. You'll cultivate and sustain partnerships with drivers, vendors, customs authority, and clients, negotiating advantageous terms to maintain service excellence within road freight operations. Your role extends to devising and implementing cost-effective strategies to optimize trucking routes, minimize expenses, and bolster profitability in road freight services. Leading a team of freight coordinators and drivers, you'll provide guidance and mentorship, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement specific to road freight operations.

What You’ll Do (Key Accountabilities)
• Strategically plan, organise, and oversee all facets of road freight transportation, encompassing scheduling, route optimisation, and dispatch coordination.
• Manage day-to-day road freight operations, including scheduling, routing, and tracking shipments to ensure on-time delivery.
• Collaborate closely with internal departments to seamlessly integrate road freight activities with other operational functions, ensuring efficient workflows.
• Utilize data analysis to closely monitor road freight performance metrics, identify areas for enhancement, and implement targeted corrective measures.
• Conduct negotiations with vendors to secure favourable contracts and rates, ensuring cost-effective and dependable road transportation services.
• Develop and enforce policies and procedures tailored to road freight operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and industry protocols.
• Lead the road freight team through effective recruitment, comprehensive training, and ongoing performance management initiatives.
• Address customer inquiries and resolve issues pertaining to road freight shipments, maintaining consistently high levels of customer satisfaction.
• Remain updated on industry trends, market dynamics, and technological advancements relevant to road freight operations, driving continuous innovation and competitive edge.

Requirements

About You   

 

Education and Certification

Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.

 

Knowledge and Skills Needed to do the Job

  • Strong knowledge of transportation regulations, freight forwarding practices, and industry trends.

  • Proficiency in transportation management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.

  • Thorough understanding of freight operations, including shipping methods, carrier selection, and freight documentation.

  • Ability to analyze data and make strategic decisions to optimize freight processes and reduce costs.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team.

  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

  • Customer-centric mindset with a commitment to delivering exceptional service 



Experience

  • Proven experience in freight management, logistics, or transportation, preferably in a leadership role.

  • People management experience to mentor and coach the development and performance of the freight team.
